Hallo Franz,

Lieber Dieter,

.... und off topic:
in welcher Gegend sind wir? FRASCATI !! Ich bekomme Durst.
Hello all!
Here are two local letters mailed at the 1 baj per 6 denari rate.
The first is 1854 in the Ancona province. From Jesi to Rosara with a prices realized sheet only showing a grain price.
The second is an 1852 letter from San Ginesio, Macerata province, to Sant'Elpidio.
In both cases, the front of the letter is marked with a "1" baj. They adhesive paying 1 baj is placed on the back of the letter.
I have read that the Papal postal system allowed for sending letters post due and the stamp would then be placed on the back. However, I feel like I do not fully understand the process.
For example, with the first letter, the 1 baj stamp was applied in Jesi and tied by a Jesi handstamp. Is it correct to assume that it was sent unpaid, the Jesi postmaster put a "1" on the front and then put the adhesive on the back as an indicator that postage was to be collected from the recipient?
With the second example, San Ginesio had a postal marking (red box), but the adhesive was applied on the back in Macerata, where it is tied by the Macerata hand stamp. This makes me believe that the placement of the adhesive was left to the main post office for each postal administration or district.
Also of interest is that Sant'Elpidio was technically in Fermo province, but on the north side of the river there, so it would make sense that it might be in the Macerata postal district and treated as such. I am wondering if there are lists of the postal districts in the 1850s and the settlements that belonged to them?
I hope everyone is well.
Rob
Hallo Sammlerfreunde,
Siegelseitiger Stempel F?C (vielleicht Ankunftstempel)?
Liebe Grüße
Franz
Hello everyone!
I have put together a post where I attempt to summarize the internal postal rates for the Papal States from 1852 to 1870. I realize it is in English and may not be easy for everyone here to read. But, if you are interested, I would be happy to receive any corrections if I have made mistakes there.
Best,
Rob
Hello Rob
looks very good to me - but I can´t answer any of your questions.
Dr. T. Mathà is a member of this forum, but follows it not that much. May be you ask him?
Very impressive anyway and good luck to complete everything.
ich werde es mir anschauen
Liebe Freunde,
All' Illum.o Signore
Il Signor Governatore di
Sogliano
D'Uffo

a presto,
Laurent.
